Such Cheer

0

Everyone is so depressing and looking on the bad side of everything.  I thought I would offer this poem to cheer everyone up:

Through me you pass into the city of woe:
Through me you pass into eternal pain:
Through me among the people lost for aye.

Justice the founder of my fabric mov’d:
To rear me was the task of power divine,
Supremest wisdom, and primeval love.

Before me things create were none, save things
Eternal, and eternal I endure.
All hope abandon ye who enter here.

Such characters in colour dim I mark’d
Over a portal’s lofty arch inscrib’d:
Whereat I thus: Master, these words import.

“Obviously, circumstances alone do not make us happy or unhappy. It is the way we react to circumstances that determines our feelings. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven is within you. That is where the kingdom of hell is too.”

Who am I

1

I’m nobody! Who are you?

Are you nobody, too?

Then there’s a pair of us — don’t tell!

They’d banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!

How public, like a frog

To tell your name the livelong day

To an admiring bog!

– Emily Dickenson

Forty-Five

0

I am Forty Five today, thanks to you good friends that got me this far and celebrated with me…

Bear with the musings of an old man….I found this poem titled 45.

Forty-File by Hayden Carruth

When I was forty-five I lay for hours

beside a pool, the green hazy

springtime water, and watched

the salamanders coupling, how they drifted lazily,

their little hands floating before them,

aimlessly in and out of the shadows, fifteen

or twenty of them, and suddenly two

would dart together and clasp

one another belly to belly

the way we do, tender and vigorous, and then

would let go and drift away

at peace, lazily,

in the green pool that was their world

and for a while was mine.

With spring here updates are slowing down for the summer…

Sorry, no new updates lately.  I do have some new pictures that I need to post soon and my brother-in-law’s (Andy) 40th birthday celebration is next weekend (should have good pictures from that one)…If you frequent this site and ever want to talk, the best place to find me is at B. Donovan’s in Chesterfield on Friday night with friends.  My wife is going to see Wilco tonight at the Pageant…Jean’s friend’s husband is the brother of the lead singer…then why didn’t I get a ticket…

What else- kids are out of school in about a week and we are going to Myrtle Beach (this is our Condo and view) in June.  This is as far North as you can go in Myrtle Beach.  If anyone has ideas for fun things to do in Myrtle let me know.  This is our second year in a row going, but we just hanged out and relaxed most of the time at the condo.

Nothing new to pass on from the family, except my sister, Diane, is now working at Victoria’s secret…I should get some free underwear out of it!

Take care,

Dave

The Great Easter Egg…

0

No pictures yet, but when you see me you will see the great Easter Egg!….yes, I am bald!  I shaved off what little hair I had left.  Why?  Well, might be a lot of reasons for that, but probably comes down to mostly a mid-life crisis thing, but I had been thinking about doing it for some time.  A friend of mine pushed me over the edge to do it and Jean helped me complete the task…

Here is the closest picture to what I look like now

This may be one of my last posts…

I just started taking Bikram Yoga and it is unbelieveably hard.  You can hit the link for all the details, but it is a 90 minute body twisting nightmare in 105 degree room.   Help!
